This show as part of Two Door Cinema Club's celebration of the 15th anniversary of their debut album, Tourist History. I'm not a huge fan of theirs, but I did like a few songs on that album; I'm not familiar with much of their work since. I attended the show mostly because Phantogram and Friendly Fires were also playing; as was Strfkr, but didn't really know or care for them.
I arrived to the venue about 15 minutes after the 7p start time, but that was late enough to miss essentially all of Friendly Fires' 4 song performance (I heard the end of the last song from the concourse and got to my seat just as they were saying goodbye). Even more disappointing was that they played "Jump in the Pool", which is one of my all time jams.
I got a couple of overpriced pizza slices for dinner and then watched some of Strfkr from behind in one of the closed off sections.
Phantogram got off to a false start with what sounded like a busted audio connection at the beginning of their first song. But things were fixed without too much of a wait, and the second take got them back on track. I would have changed the middle half of the songs on their setlist, but it was still decent. They had a pretty good light show for a non-headliner (I guess because they've recently been doing their own headline shows).
TDCC started off with the first 6 or 7 songs from Tourist History before switching out to other stuff. I appreciated hearing "Something Good Can Work" and a couple of other tracks from that album. They were clearly good / polished musicians. But I was ready to leave before too long. I stayed longer than I wanted because I didn't want to step over the people in my row, but eventually took the chance when the couple next to me left early as well (at the "Chapter 2" transition). I think TDCC might have returned to finishing the rest of Tourist History, but I'm not sure.
